A wonderfully characterful mid-century wall-mounted coat rack, dating from the post-war period and retaining its original playful charm.

The rack is constructed from a solid stained wooden back rail with simple moulded detailing, fitted with five hand-twisted steel double hooks. Each hook is finished with original coloured ball finials in a joyful mix of pink, blue, yellow, green and orange, a design detail strongly associated with 1950s–60s utility and Scandinavian-influenced interiors.

Originally the sort of piece you might have found in a school cloakroom, village hall or ski lodge, it now works beautifully in a hallway, boot room, kitchen, children’s bedroom or heritage pub interior.

Both practical and decorative, this is a rare survivor with all hooks intact and no replacements.

Condition: Good vintage condition throughout. There is honest wear to the wood and metal commensurate with age, which only adds to its character. The coloured ball finials appear original and are in very good order.

Dimensions:

Width: 77 cm

Height (wood rail): 10 cm

Depth: 3.5 cm (hooks project further when mounted)

Notes:

Wall hanging plates are present to the rear. Ready to hang.

A charming, functional piece with real mid-century personality, increasingly hard to find in this condition.
