A vibrant and highly decorative handwoven Afghan kilim rug of generous proportions, woven in the traditional Maimana style and displaying a wonderfully balanced arrangement of geometric tribal motifs throughout.

The rug features a striking palette of coral red, terracotta, sky blue, soft lavender, ochre and cream, arranged within multiple stepped borders surrounding a central field of repeating lozenge medallions and angular tribal devices. The colour combination is particularly appealing, giving the piece a fresh and contemporary feel while still retaining the character and warmth of traditional nomadic weaving.

Handwoven in wool using traditional flatweave techniques, the rug has a pleasing texture and a lightweight, versatile quality that works beautifully in both classic and modern interiors. The intricate geometric motifs and rhythmic patterning create strong visual impact without overwhelming a space.

A highly versatile size, ideal for a sitting room, bedroom, study or layered country house interior. Equally suited to Scandinavian, mid-century, bohemian or English country style schemes.

Condition is very good overall, with vibrant colours, even wear and only minor signs of age and use consistent with a handwoven textile.

Measurements:

265 cm x 160 cm
