Victorian Burr Walnut Bedside Cabinet / Pot Cupboard c.1870

A particularly handsome Victorian bedside cabinet, dating to the mid–late 19th century and beautifully veneered throughout in richly figured burr walnut.

This is a striking example, with exceptional natural grain patterns across all visible surfaces, the burr walnut displaying dramatic swirling and “peacock eye” figuring that gives the piece real depth and visual interest. The colour is warm and consistent, with a lovely mellow patina that has developed over time.

The cabinet is of classic form, with a single cupboard opening to a useful internal storage space, set above two small drawers. The simple plinth base and understated shaping allow the quality of the timber to take centre stage.

Compact in scale, it works equally well as a bedside table, lamp stand or occasional cabinet.

The piece is notably heavy for its size, reflecting its solid construction and quality timbers , a reassuring indicator of its authenticity and durability.

Condition:

Good overall, with age-appropriate wear. There are minor surface marks, small veneer nibbles and a shrinkage line to one side, all consistent with its age. Structurally sound and ready for use.
