A wonderfully decorative set of four vintage papier-mâché candlesticks, handmade in Kashmir, India, and originally produced for Oxfam.
Each is individually hand-painted with exuberant stylised flowers and foliage in rich shades of red, green, orange, purple and blue, highlighted with fine gilt detailing. The slight variations in the decoration give each candlestick its own character while they work beautifully together as a set.
Complete with their removable brass candle holders. The original labels remain to the undersides reading “Handicrafts Papier Mache – Made in Kashmir India for Oxfam.”
In vintage condition with age-related wear, rubbing and small losses to the painted and lacquered decoration, particularly around the rims, all adding to their character. Please refer to photographs.
