An elegant pair of vintage brass-finished greyhound (lurcher) sculptures, one standing and the other reclining, beautifully capturing the graceful lines and athletic form of these much-admired sighthounds. Their elongated proportions, flowing silhouettes and stylised musculature are strongly inspired by the clean, sophisticated aesthetic of Art Deco animal sculpture.

Dating from circa 1960–1980, these decorative figures reflect the enduring popularity of Art Deco-inspired design during the mid-twentieth century. Cast in brass-finished spelter, each sculpture is enhanced with incised detailing to the ribs and haunches, adding depth and character while emphasising the elegant physique of the dogs.

Displaying a warm, mellow patina acquired over time, the pair possess wonderful decorative appeal and would make a striking addition to a mantelpiece, console table, library or study. Their understated elegance allows them to complement both traditional and contemporary interiors with ease.

Whether admired by collectors of canine sculpture, lovers of Art Deco design or those simply seeking beautifully sculptural decorative objects, these charming figures make an eye-catching and timeless pair.

Condition:

Good vintage condition with an attractive aged patina and wear commensurate with age and use. There are areas where the brass finish has rubbed through, revealing the underlying white metal in places, most noticeably to the reclining figure. This is consistent with age and does not detract from their decorative appeal. No structural damage or repairs noted.
