An attractive and unusually decorative pair of mid-20th-century mahogany standard lamps, each incorporating a useful circular drinks or occasional table. Shades not available

The lamps are constructed in richly coloured mahogany, with particularly handsome barley-twist columns extending both above and below the table platforms. Each circular table has a finely moulded edge and provides a practical surface for a drink, book or decorative object.
The lower columns terminate in substantial turned and moulded circular pedestal bases, giving the lamps a pleasing sense of proportion and stability. Above the tables, the continuation of the barley-twist stem rises to the lamp fitting, creating an elegant and coherent design.
The combination of standard lamp and occasional table is characteristic of practical mid-century furniture design, while the barley-twist turning deliberately references much earlier English furniture traditions. Their dark mahogany colour and restrained detailing give them a particularly smart country-house appearance.
