A superb pair of late 19th century Louis XV style carved gilt mirrors.
Executed in carved wood with traditional gesso decoration, each frame features exuberant Rococo scrollwork, floral cresting and deep relief detailing. The proportions are elegant and vertical, with a narrow waist and richly ornamented crest and base.
The reverse retains an original printed trade label for W.M. Dibben, Picture Framer & Gilder, 104 Poole Road, Westbourne, a late Victorian / Edwardian framing workshop. While not the maker of the frames themselves, the label provides charming period provenance and suggests the mirrors were retailed through a respected regional framer in the late 19th or early 20th century.
The mirror plates are later replacements, offering clarity and practicality while preserving the integrity of the original frames.
These are highly decorative pieces with strong presence despite their cabinet scale — ideal flanking a console, above bedside tables, or positioned either side of a chimney breast.
