This is Plate VI, titled ‘The Industrious Prentice Out of His Time, & Married to His Master’s Daughter’, depicting the successful apprentice completing his apprenticeship and marrying his master’s daughter. Beneath the image appears the biblical quotation from Proverbs 12:4:
“The Virtuous Woman is a Crown to her Husband.”
Designed and engraved after Hogarth’s original composition, the print displays the exceptional detail and narrative richness for which he is renowned. The bustling London street scene is filled with finely observed figures and architectural detail, making it one of the most engaging plates in the series.
Presented in an attractive later gilt and stained wood frame with a charcoal-grey mount, ready to hang.
