A beautifully decorative late Victorian wall mirror dating from the late nineteenth century, retaining its original polychrome painted finish and water-gilded relief decoration.
The elegant arched frame is richly ornamented with trailing vine leaves and bunches of grapes in finely modelled composition, highlighted in burnished gilt over a deep green and warm terracotta ground. Inspired by Renaissance ornament and the naturalistic motifs so favoured during the Aesthetic Movement, the mirror has a wonderfully distinctive character.
The original mirror plate displays gentle foxing and light silvering wear, lending the piece the mellow charm and authenticity that only comes with age. The painted finish has acquired an attractive patina over more than a century, complementing the rich gilding beautifully.
Its compact proportions make it an ideal statement piece for a hallway, cloakroom, bedroom or above a chest of drawers, where its vibrant colours and decorative detailing will bring warmth and character to both traditional and contemporary interiors.

Very good antique condition. Original painted and gilded decoration with age-related wear and patina throughout. The original mirror plate has light foxing consistent with its age. Later hardboard backing, securely fitted and ready to hang.
