A substantial and decorative late 19th century oak coffer, crafted in the Jacobean manner and richly adorned with carved detail to the front.

The frieze features a continuous band of interlocking lozenge motifs, above three recessed panels framed by stylised foliate uprights. The carving is bold and rhythmic, giving the piece strong visual impact while reflecting the Victorian revival of 17th-century design.

Constructed in solid oak, the chest retains a deep, mellow patina with good tonal variation across the surface. The plank top shows attractive grain and honest age-related wear, consistent with over a century of use.

The interior retains its original candle box, a particularly appealing survival that adds both charm and authenticity. The rear is of simple plank construction, typical of the period and confirming its practical origins.

Raised on stile feet, the proportions are generous, making this an ideal piece for use as a blanket chest, coffee table, or hallway storage, combining functionality with decorative presence.
