The tall spindle back and swept bow give the chair a refined, upright presence while still feeling wonderfully tactile and homely.This example has all the hallmarks of West Country or Thames Valley chairmaking of the period: a deeply sculpted solid elm seat, slender turned legs with a crinoline stretcher, and a generously proportioned hoop back. 
An old historic repair to the back bow is visible but completely sound, the chair sits firm and sturdy with no movement, and the patina runs naturally across the repaired area.
