A large vintage hand-knotted Persian Abadeh carpet, originating from Fars Province in south-west Iran.
The carpet features a characteristic Abadeh design, with a large geometric central medallion set against an expansive madder-red field densely populated with traditional geometric, floral and stylised animal motifs. Four distinctive corner medallions and multiple patterned borders complete the composition.
The colours have mellowed beautifully with age, creating a wonderfully decorative palette of faded madder red, dusty rose, charcoal, muted green, cream and touches of ochre. The extensive natural wear and fading give the carpet a particularly attractive, timeworn character.
Hand-knotted in wool, this is an impressive and highly decorative carpet of substantial proportions, suitable for a large sitting room, dining room or bedroom.
Condition:
In well-used vintage condition with extensive age-related wear, fading and areas of low pile, consistent with its age and history. There is wear to the edges and fringes and evidence of historic use.
