A handsome and substantial late Victorian overmantel mirror, dating from the late 19th century, retaining its original timber frame and old mirror plate, later refinished in a crisp white paint finish.
The architectural frame is beautifully proportioned, with a bold projecting cornice surmounted by dentil moulding above a decorative blind arcade frieze, all supported by elegant pilaster-style uprights. Inspired by Georgian classical design, it is a timeless piece that works equally well in both traditional and contemporary interiors.
The mirror has been professionally repainted in white, giving it a fresh, versatile appearance while preserving the character and craftsmanship of the original Victorian frame. The generous proportions make it ideal for positioning above a fireplace, sideboard or console, where it will reflect light and create a wonderful sense of space.
The rear retains its traditional boarded construction with original strengthening bar, supporting its late Victorian date.
