A beautifully sculpted ceramic owl by David Sharp of Rye, the piece is individually hand-modelled with the expressive carving and sepia-washed glaze typical of Sharp’s studio work. The owl sits perched on a stylised tree-stump, its highlighted eyes and beak adding a subtle decorative shimmer. The base carries both the impressed “David Sharp Pottery Rye” stamp and a handwritten signature, confirming it as a studio piece rather than a later mass-produced design.
Crafted in Britain in the late twentieth century (c. 1970s–80s) and made of hand-modeled ceramic under the Rye Pottery studio tradition, this is a striking folk-art-inspired decorative sculpture with wonderful character and presence.
Although vintage, the piece remains in very good condition overall: you’ll find only minor glaze irregularities from the handmade process, which add to its authenticity and charm.
