A wonderfully decorative sporting print entitled “Salmon Fishing”, after the celebrated British sporting artist Henry Thomas Alken (1785–1851).
The composition depicts three fishermen on a rugged riverbank, dressed in vivid period clothing, with the dramatic landscape and strong sense of movement characteristic of Alken’s sporting subjects. The print is particularly striking for its rich turquoise, ochre and terracotta colouring.
Presented beneath glass with a deep terracotta-coloured mount and a simple gilt frame, which has developed an attractive worn patina over time.
The image is based on Alken’s early 19th-century sporting series, although we have not removed it from the frame and therefore cannot confirm the precise date or printing process of this particular example.
A charming and highly decorative piece, ideal for a country house, study, boot room or sporting interior.

Condition:
Good decorative condition with age-related wear throughout. The gilt frame shows rubbing, marks and areas of patination, all consistent with age and adding to its character. The piece is notably heavy for its size.
