A charming original Italian oil on canvas by Guido Borelli, entitled Tornando a Casa (Returning Home).
The atmospheric composition depicts a quiet Italian courtyard, with a solitary figure beneath a large stone archway. Weathered façades, shuttered windows and hanging washing are rendered in a beautifully muted palette of warm terracotta, stone, ochre and soft blue-grey.
Painted with expressive, textured brushwork that gives the architectural details and sun-worn surfaces wonderful depth and character.
Signed G. Borelli lower right and retaining a Castellini Certificato di Garanzia e Valutazione to the reverse, identifying the artist and confirming the work as an original oil on canvas.
Presented in a substantial moulded timber frame with gilt detailing and a cream inner slip. The painting is displayed without glass, allowing the texture of the original oil to be fully appreciated.
