A charming and unusual French Art Deco oval wall mirror, dating from around 1930, featuring a beautifully cast metal frame with a distinctive mottled lilac finish and gilt-highlighted floral decoration.

The elegant oval frame is richly ornamented with stylised roses and foliage in relief, picked out in original gilding against a soft lavender ground, creating a refined and highly decorative piece that sits perfectly within both Art Deco and traditional interiors. The mirror retains its original bevelled glass, which has developed an attractive, gentle foxing consistent with its age, adding warmth and authenticity.

The reverse retains its original retailer’s label for Aldridge Bros. “The Little Gallery”, Worthing, a respected printseller, gilder and frame maker, confirming it was retailed in England during the period.

The frame is of heavy cast metal construction with its original painted and gilded finish, showing honest age-related wear that enhances its character. This is a decorative and increasingly sought-after example of early twentieth-century design, equally suited to a hallway, bedroom, dressing room or bathroom.

Condition:

Very good antique condition with age-related wear throughout. Original painted and gilt finish with some small areas of paint loss and rubbing. Original bevelled mirror plate with light foxing and silvering losses commensurate with age. Original backboard and retailer’s label remain intact.
