A charming signed watercolour by Frederick James Aldridge (1850–1933), the acclaimed British marine painter known for his delicate and atmospheric nautical scenes. This early C20th work depicts barges with Aldridge’s characteristic attention to detail and light.
 
Born in 1850, he began painting at twenty and spent much of his life in Worthing, where he operated a gallery. His works, signed ‘F J Aldridge,’ were exhibited at the Royal Academy and Suffolk Street Galleries.
