A beautifully tactile Edwardian sterling silver match striker, assayed in Birmingham and dating to 1902.

The piece is of pleasing rounded form with fine horizontal engine-turning across the body, creating a subtle, shimmering surface that catches the light beautifully. Designed to hold matches, the textured exterior would originally have been used for striking, combining both function and decorative appeal.

The maker’s mark “J.C.” is present and likely attributable to Joseph Cook & Son of Birmingham, known for producing small domestic silverware in the late 19th and early 20th century.

A charming and increasingly sought-after object, ideal for a desk, library, or coffee table arrangement.
