A refined Edwardian navy silk parasol of excellent quality, retaining its original canopy, cover, and a sought-after Paragon frame by S. Fox & Co Ltd of Sheffield.
This example is distinguished by its beautifully engineered Paragon mechanism, widely regarded as one of the finest umbrella and parasol frames of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Produced by Samuel Fox & Co, a leading British manufacturer, these frames were supplied to higher-end makers and retailers and are noted for their strength and elegant construction.
The parasol features a softly draped navy blue silk canopy, offering a gentler and more versatile tone than black, making it particularly suited to decorative use. It is supported by slender steel ribs with brass tips, and finished with a finely detailed handle. The spherical pommel is covered in black leather and inlaid with delicate brass lines forming a subtle spiral motif — an understated but highly considered design detail typical of better-quality pieces.
Unusually, the parasol retains its original outer sleeve, adding to both its rarity and desirability.
A sophisticated and authentic Edwardian accessory, equally suited for display, collecting, or occasional use in fair weather.
