An elegant late Georgian mahogany dressing table mirror, dating from the early 19th century and displaying particularly attractive proportions and fine period detailing.
The arched mirror plate is framed in beautifully figured mahogany and suspended between a pair of slender turned uprights, each terminating in a contrasting dark turned finial.
Decorative brass ring-handled pivot fittings allow the mirror to tilt and be adjusted to the desired angle. The uprights are supported on finely shaped sledge feet, united by a turned horizontal stretcher.
The restrained form, delicate turned decoration and use of figured timber are characteristic of the late Georgian and early William IV period.
A particularly attractive and practical antique mirror, ideal for a dressing table, chest of drawers or bathroom.
Condition:
In good antique condition, with wear consistent with age and use. The mahogany retains a lovely warm colour and patina, with minor marks, scratches and small knocks throughout.
There is some age-related wear to the timber and fittings. The mirror plate may be a later replacement. The mirror tilts within its frame and retains its decorative brass pivot fittings.
