An elegant and finely hand-carved gilded mirror, English in origin but strongly influenced by continental design, particularly Venetian styles of the period. The floral decoration and craftsmanship suggest it may have been made by a European artisan working in England in the early 19th century, possibly one of many who fled persecution and brought their decorative traditions with them.
The original glass was replaced with a bevelled-edge mirror in the early 20th century. Five integrated ledges make this a beautiful yet practical piece for displaying ornaments or candles.
