A rare Doulton Lambeth brown salt-glazed stoneware commemorative jug, celebrating the Emin Pasha Relief Expedition of 1887–89. This historic piece features a relief portrait of Henry Morton Stanley, flanked by allegorical figures representing ‘Enterprise’ and ‘Valour’, with the poignant motto ‘Out of the Darkness into Light’. The jug also honours Stanley’s officers—E.M. Barttelot, W. Bonney, A.J. Mountenay-Jephson, W.C. Stairs, R.H. Nelson, and T.H. Parke—encircling its form in raised script. A striking example of late C19th British stoneware, rich in both craftsmanship and imperial history.
