This finely hand-engraved Chinese brass charger dates from the late Qing to early Republic period and features a central five-clawed dragon pursuing the flaming pearl, surrounded by a wide border of scrolling dragons, peony blossoms and traditional geometric key-pattern decoration.
Beautifully engraved by hand from heavy-gauge brass, the charger has developed a warm, mellow patina that enhances its character and decorative appeal. Despite its modest size, it is unusually substantial and would display beautifully on a wall or as part of a collection of Asian decorative arts.
The reverse retains a later soldered hanging loop for wall display. There are age-related marks and wear consistent with its age and use, adding to its authentic antique character.
