A striking antique hand-carved hardwood ceremonial bowl or offering vessel, probably originating from West Africa and dating to the late 19th or early 20th century.
Expertly carved from a single solid piece of dense hardwood, the bowl has an elegant elongated canoe form with pointed ends and a beautifully sculptural silhouette. The rim is decorated with a continuous band of hand-carved ring-and-dot motifs, while the sides feature finely incised geometric bands, all softened by years of handling and use.
