Antique Thomas Brigg London Gentleman’s Umbrella – Pigskin Handle, Black Silk Canopy, Paragon Frame, Oilcloth Cover (c.1930s)
A fine early 20th-century gentleman’s umbrella by Thomas Brigg of London, one of England’s most prestigious umbrella makers and holder of Royal Warrants.
This is a particularly well-made and complete example, featuring a bamboo shaft and a hand-stitched black pigskin-covered crook handle, a durable and refined detail associated with higher-quality umbrellas of the period.
The umbrella retains its original black silk canopy, which remains in notably good condition for its age — increasingly uncommon — and is supported by a Paragon frame by S. Fox & Co Ltd of Sheffield, renowned for its strength and engineering quality.
It is complete with its original outer sleeve in traditional oilcloth, designed to protect the umbrella when stored and adding to its authenticity and desirability.
A brass collar engraved “G. Crispin 15.4.36” provides a charming and personal period detail.
A classic and elegant example, suitable for display, collecting, or occasional practical use.
