A wonderfully authentic antique primitive elm stool, handcrafted using traditional mortise and tenon construction with original hardwood wedge pegs securing each leg.
Fashioned from solid, time-worn timber, the thick plank seat displays a rich honey-brown patina developed over many decades of use. Deep grain, natural shrinkage, historic splits and hand-tool marks combine to give the piece exceptional character and a beautifully tactile surface.
The splayed legs provide excellent stability and are joined by stretcher rails, while the exposed wedged through-tenons on the seat are a particularly attractive feature, showcasing the skill of the original maker.
Originally made as a practical milking or low work stool, today it makes a superb decorative object. It works equally well as a small side table, plant stand, sculpture plinth or fireside stool, adding warmth and rustic charm to both traditional and contemporary interiors.
