A wonderfully atmospheric Japanese reverse-painted glass landscape, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, circa 1900.
The scene depicts a tranquil riverside landscape with traditional buildings, pine trees, figures in boats, a bridge and distant mountains, all rendered in a beautifully restrained palette of blue, black, white and soft coral tones.
Particularly interesting is the layered construction, which gives the picture a subtle three-dimensional quality. As the viewing angle changes, elements of the landscape appear to shift slightly behind the bridge, creating an unusual parallax effect and adding real depth to the composition.
Presented in its original stained wooden frame, which has developed a lovely patina with age.
A highly decorative and unusual piece, ideal for a gallery wall or as a standalone accent in both traditional and contemporary interiors.
Dimensions:
Overall: W33.5 × H27 cm
Image: W25.5 × H19 cm
Condition:
Good antique condition with age-related wear throughout. The frame shows knocks, rubbing and losses to the finish, particularly around the edges and corners, consistent with age. The glass picture itself remains highly decorative.
