A wonderful example of a late 19th Century hand crafted Decalcomania glass globe stood on a smart brass stand. In the Victorian era Decalcomania was a process of transferring designs from prepared paper on to glass or porcelain, interestingly the papier would have been positioned to the inside of the glass ball then a paint (white) would have been applied. A technique also used by some surrealist artists which involves pressing paint between sheets of paper.
