Mid-Century Persian Kashan Hand-Knotted Wool Rug, c.1950

A beautiful authentic Persian Kashan rug, hand-knotted in Iran during the mid-20th century. Woven in fine wool on a cotton foundation, it features a rich madder-red field with an elegant all-over floral design, framed by striking indigo borders filled with stylised palmettes, scrolling vines and Shah Abbasi motifs.

The wonderfully mellow colour palette of deep reds, soft blues, sage greens and ivory has developed a lovely patina over time, making this an exceptionally versatile rug that works equally well with traditional antiques, mid-century furniture or contemporary interiors.

The rug has been hand-knotted using traditional Persian techniques and retains excellent definition throughout the pattern. It is in good vintage condition with age-related wear consistent with use, together with professionally overcast side edges that help preserve the structure for many years to come.

A handsome and practical size for a sitting room, study, bedroom or entrance hall, offering warmth, colour and character to any interior.
