About John Taylor & Son
John Taylor founded his cabinet-making business in 1825 in West Thistle Street, Edinburgh, later relocating to the prestigious Princes Street when his son joined the firm. By 1852, John Taylor & Son had earned the esteemed appointment of Cabinet Makers and Upholsterers to Her Majesty the Queen. Their Rosemount Cabinet Works, established around 1857, contributed to their reputation as one of Scotland’s foremost furniture makers of the late Victorian era, employing nearly 300 craftsmen. The company continued trading from Princes Street until its liquidation in 1945.
