A striking and highly sculptural 19th century primitive wooden tub, hand-coopered from thick vertical staves and raised on three naturally formed legs.
The wide stance of the legs gives this piece exceptional presence and stability, making it read almost as a piece of folk sculpture rather than purely functional ware.
Originally used as a dairy, wash or agricultural soaking tub, it shows layers of honest wear, rich patina and historic wire and iron repairs, all signs of genuine age rather than later decorative manufacture.
Today it would work beautifully as a planter, log store, umbrella stand, wine or drinks cooler, or statement interior object, equally at home in a country house, pub interior or contemporary space
