A magnificent set of gilt bronze French candelabra comprising two examples with cranes and storks by the celebrated sculptor Auguste Cain, and one unmarked featuring a griffin. These are exceptionally heavy and highly decorative works, retaining their original patina (though they could be cleaned if desired).

The two crane candelabra are each marked “CAIN” and display six branches with floral trumpet holders and small animal motifs along the stems and summit. Please note that one of the stork candelabras is missing a candle insert holder (but not the candle branch itself). The griffin candelabra, is unmarked but stylistically in keeping with Cain or possibly Auguste-Maximilien Delafontaine, and stands on a marble base with a small chip (visible in photos).

Measurements:

Crane Candelabra (x2): Height 83 cm, Depth 20 cm

Griffin Candelabra (x1): Height 78 cm, Depth 23 cm

About Auguste Cain (1821–1894):

Auguste Nicolas Caïn was a leading French sculptor of the Animaliers school, celebrated for his lifelike portrayals of wild and domestic animals. Trained under Rude, Guionnet, and his father-in-law Pierre-Jules Mêne, Cain exhibited extensively at the Paris Salon between 1846 and 1888. His public monuments, including Chiens de meute at the Château de Chantilly and Le Lion de Nubie et sa proie in the Jardin du Luxembourg, cemented his reputation as one of the foremost animal sculptors of the 19th century.
