A substantial and highly decorative Moorish brass floor lamp of exceptional scale, intricately hand-pierced throughout with geometric, arabesque and calligraphic motifs. The impressive domed shade is surmounted by a pierced crown-form finial and finished with an elaborate scalloped border, raised on a matching columnar stem and wide circular base, each richly decorated with finely worked openwork panels.
When illuminated, the pierced brasswork casts a beautiful patterned light, creating a warm and atmospheric effect. The quality and density of the decoration throughout, combined with the lamp’s impressive proportions, make it a striking statement piece suitable for both traditional and contemporary interiors.
Comparable examples are held in the Doris Duke Collection of Islamic Art at Shangri La, Hawaii, reflecting the enduring appeal of this style of craftsmanship.
The lamp has been rewired and professionally PAT tested for modern use and remains a particularly impressive example due to its large scale and richly detailed decoration.
Condition
Good decorative condition throughout. Some light tarnishing, surface wear and minor age-related marks to the brass, consistent with age and use. Rewired and PAT tested.
