A Hand Made and Coloured Man on a Goat signed on base J Obican 1961.
Jovan Obican (1918–1986) was a French painter and lithographer known for his colorful, playful depictions of folklore and Jewish traditions. His naïve style, reminiscent of Marc Chagall and Jean Dubuffet, used bright colors and bold outlines to create dreamlike imagery. Born to Yugoslavian parents, Obican later split his time between Boca Raton, Florida, and Dubrovnik, Croatia, where he explored Eastern European Jewish culture. His works often depicted weddings, music, and celebrations and are still displayed in his former Dubrovnik studio.
