A particularly attractive late 19th-century oval wall mirror, the richly coloured walnut frame finely carved with naturalistic foliate decoration and retaining gilt detailing around the inner moulding.
The substantial oval frame is decorated with trailing carved leaves and flowers and surmounted by an elaborate pierced ribbon-tied crest. The scrolling ribbon and foliage give the mirror a distinctly French-influenced Louis XVI Revival character, with a further carved foliate flourish completing the base.
The warm colour and attractive figuring of the walnut contrast beautifully with the darker carved foliage and restrained gilt detail.
The mirror plate and rear backing are later replacements.
