  • Description

A fabulous pair of Italian 18th Century marble topped hand-carved console tables. The tops are a beautiful veined black marble with moulded edges, which are set upon hand-carved and painted beech bases. The consoles come in two parts: the base and the marble top.

They are made of beechwood and elm and have the most wonderful sweeping and scrolling legs united with a central urn shaped socle returning to a top motif of a scallop shell. They have swags of harebells interwoven with rope and glorious marble tops.

They retain the original marble which has had professional restoration at some stage.

The paintwork has been renewed as it was impossible to reutilise the original as it was too badly chipped. However the original colours were faithfully reproduced and I think we forget how colourful some Georgian houses must have been, not all brown furniture! These tables would grace any home and make a dramatic statement of beauty.

They have been fully restored by the professional artist and restorer David H Jones, and retain their original marble.

Previously sold through Roseberys in 2012.

    Condition report:

There is some damage to the marble as seen in the photographs commensurate with age .
