A rare and important George III oak dresser chest, firmly attributed to Hobbs & Co, retaining its original maker’s label. Dating to the late 18th / early 19th century, circa 1790–1820, this is a highly desirable example of English cabinetmaking from one of the period’s most respected firms.
Constructed in solid oak throughout, the dresser features a traditional open plate rack with three fixed shelves and a projecting moulded cornice, above a chest base fitted with a series of graduated drawers. The drawers retain period brass handles and are set above a plinth base, giving the piece both visual weight and excellent functionality.
The oak has matured to a rich, warm tone with a beautifully worn surface and patina consistent with genuine age and use. The survival of the Hobbs & Co label is particularly noteworthy, as labelled examples are increasingly scarce and significantly enhance both provenance and value.
A superb and versatile piece of Georgian furniture, suitable for use in a kitchen, dining room, pantry or hall, and equally at home in period interiors or layered into more contemporary settings. rare and important George III oak dresser chest, firmly attributed to Hobbs & Co, retaining its original maker’s label.
