A charming 19th-century Regency-style convex wall mirror, with a wonderfully aged gilt gesso frame surrounding a contrasting ebonised inner slip.
The simple reeded frame retains an attractive mellow gilt finish, with areas of rubbing, craquelure and wear that give the mirror a particularly appealing timeworn character. The convex glass produces the distinctive wide-angle reflection associated with Regency mirrors and makes this a highly decorative piece despite its relatively compact proportions.
The reverse retains an old timber backboard together with an aged metal chain for hanging.
A lovely small-scale antique mirror, ideal for hanging as a standalone piece or as part of a collection of pictures and mirrors.
Dimensions:
Height: 30 cm
Width: 30 cm
Depth: 3 cm
Condition:
Good antique condition with considerable age and character. The gilt gesso frame has areas of rubbing, surface cracking, small losses, knocks and general wear consistent with age and use. There is wear to the ebonised inner surround. The timber backing and hanging chain also show considerable age. These imperfections form part of the mirror’s attractive, timeworn appearance.
