A highly decorative carved oak side table of substantial form, richly detailed throughout with bold folkloric and heraldic carving in the 17th century taste.
Raised on six elegant turned legs united by stretchers, the table features a beautifully carved frieze with scrolling motifs, fan carving and a central heraldic lion crest. The top is particularly striking, centred with a carved roundel depicting a stylised bird or griffin motif, bordered by geometric chip carving in the manner of traditional Welsh and Jacobean vernacular furniture.
The table incorporates two concealed side drawers, discreetly integrated beneath the top and fitted with brass ring pulls, making it both decorative and practical. The rich oak timber displays excellent grain and colour throughout, with a warm aged patina that enhances the hand-carved details.
An unusual and characterful piece, ideal for use as a console table, serving table, hall table or large sofa table. It would work beautifully in both traditional country interiors and more eclectic contemporary spaces.
